Hongkong telegram No. 180 to Colonial Office.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent representative this
morning September 7th to say that according to report from
Governor of Kuangtung Japanese destroyer had bombarded coast
from inside Hongkong territorial waters. He was anxious to
ascertain reaction of His Majesty's Government.
I replied that we had received no official report on the case and I did not know what attitude of His Majesty's Govern- ment would be even if it could be proved that destroyer had fired from within Hongkong waters.
Addressed to Foreign Office No. 427 of September 7;
repeated to Hongkong, Peking, Commander-in-Chief, Tokyo.
